GAIN Australia: Global Aid Network
During my Junior Fall Semester, I was able to study abroad in Australia. This time was full of discovery and adventure as I was exposed to Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. One amazing relationship fostered in Brisbane Australia was when I met Mia Munro and Troy Beer who lead Power to Change Australia and GAIN Australia. These groups organize medical and dental mission clinics throughout Southeast Asia. With trained medical professionals, students and volunteers, GAIN sets up medical and dental mobile clinics to reach those in emergency situations to areas of poverty.
With a shared vision of helping those in need through service, supplies and education, I wanted to meet with them and help through Hope Smiles Together. Mia, Troy and I were able to meet in December in Brisbane at their headquarters to discuss the services of GAIN and Hope Smiles Together and their upcoming mission trip to the Philippines. A medical team is planning a trip in February to the earthquake victims of southern Philippines. This population has suffered immense loss with the earthquake in the fall and the two typhoons which followed. Many deaths and most of the infrastructure destroyed leaving the people in need of basic medical and dental care. Hope Smiles Together is thrilled to participate in the upcoming opportunity by supplying toothbrushes to the dental clinics. We look forward to seeing the clinics and the aid given to the Philippian population and are happy to be a part of re-establishing their community.
