Every smile tells a story. For many in underserved communities, access to basic dental care can mean the difference between confidence and isolation, health and illness.

Understanding the Impact

Starfish Ministry of Texas-Peru

Starfish Ministry of Texas is a group of mission-minded individuals who want to introduce others to mission work through medical and dental experiences with those in need, always remembering that we can make a difference one person, one experience at a time. Starfish Ministry has dedicated themselves to regular mission trips focused on medical and dental care to Casa del Aguila, an orphanage, in the Limatambo region of Cusco, Peru. Hope Smiles Together connected with Starfish Ministry through a dental hygienist in our area.  Her desire to serve those in need inspired me to support her and her dental team any way possible.  Hope Smiles Together was happy to send toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss with her on her trip.

Here is my interview with Christa Hall, Dental hygienist volunteer:

  • Where were you in Peru? How long were you there? Cusco, Peru.  We were there for one week, 4 clinical days
  • What services did the clinic provide? What type of healthcare people were there? The clinic performed dental services, medical and vision services.  We completed 113 fillings, 66 extractions, 310 dental cleanings, 302 SFF, 256 optical exams, 300+ glasses dispensed, 291 Oral Hygiene Instructions.  We had Dental, Medical, Holistic and Spiritual volunteers.
  • What is the next trip planned for Starfish Ministry? Cancun, Mexico April 10-18, 2026 and Cusco, Peru October 8-18, 2026

Stories from the Field

“On October 16-26, 2025, I was honored to embark on a mission to serve the people of Cusco, Peru.  I was able to utilize the gifts that God has bestowed upon me to provide dental treatment with the people in the Andes Mountains. We had 4 days of clinic.  Every day when we arrived to the clinic, there would be a long line of people waiting on us.  One older gentleman had walked down the mountain over 6 miles that morning to get his teeth cleaned.  Everybody was so happy to see us.”  Christa Hall, Dental hygienist volunteer
